The hustle and bustle of the Christmas season is upon us. Maybe you’re looking for something fun to do with your family, where you can slow down and enjoy each other’s company.

Maybe we all need a moment to see winter through the eyes of a child.

Christmas Light Displays

Grand Rapids Kids put together a list of Christmas light displays for families to check out this holiday season.

Mapped locations

Display routes are broken down by these locations:
• Coopersville, Allendale, Walker
• Grandville, Wyoming, Jenison, Hudsonville
• Lakeshore
• All of West Michigan

Make some hot chocolate and cookies, put the kids in the car, and take some time to breathe and enjoy the lights.

Winter Activities

Ottawa County is fortunate to have amazing parks—miles of walking trails, beautiful beaches, and wildlife in abundance. While many only think of Ottawa County parks in warmer seasons, Ottawa has two parks that are great winter destinations.

Pigeon Creek Park

Winter activities will begin as soon as there is enough snow. Please check trail conditions before visiting.

• Hours 7am–10pm daily

• Lighted and groomed cross-country ski trails, ski and snowshoe rentals, ski lessons, and sledding

• Ski and snowshoe rentals available at Pigeon Creek Lodge on a first-come, first-served basis

• Rental hours: Monday through Thursday, 2–8pm, Friday, 1–10pm, Saturday, 9am–10pm, Sunday, 9am–8pm. No rentals 1.5 hours before closing.

• No entry or trails fees

• Ski lessons available for beginner and intermediate levels

• Skate ski lessons also offered

Hemlock Crossing

For snowshoe rental, please confirm availability prior to arrival.

• Snowshoe rentals available for ages four and older at the Nature Center

• Rental hours: Tuesday through Saturday, 9am–5pm, Sunday, 12–5pm. Gear needs to be returned by 4pm.

• No entry or trails fees

Winter is a magical time and in Ottawa County we are blessed to have an abundance of things to do and see. Enjoy this season, and just maybe, a new tradition will be started for you and your family.
