After 44 years of service in law enforcement, Ottawa County Sheriff Steve Kempker is retiring.

The Michigan Republican Party hired a local business in Ottawa County called For Liberty earlier this year for technology consulting. One of the business partners is Joe Moss, who is also a conservative Ottawa County Commissioner. Media coverage attacked For Liberty and Joe Moss using accusations by a former State Chair of the Michigan Democratic Party.

On July 3, 2023, Democratic Party treasurer, activist, and prior candidate, Larry Jackson, filed a recall petition against Ottawa County’s first Latina County Commissioner, Lucy Ebel. As the left began its attempt to recall Commissioner Ebel, Ottawa Impact issued a statement of continuing support for Ebel:
