VOTING IS AN AMERICAN’S CIVIC DUTY. THROUGH VOTING, CITIZENS HAVE THE POWER TO SHAPE THE POLICIES AND LAWS THAT GOVERN THEIR COMMUNITIES.
Ottawa County District 2 struggles as the district with the lowest voter turnout. This didn’t change with the May 7, 2024 recall.

The Trend
Many eyes were on the District 2 recall election on May 7, 2024. But the turnout in that district was a dismal 20.35%—one of the lowest turnouts among all issues voted on across Ottawa County on Tuesday. Low voter turnout is nothing new for District 2, which is often at the bottom of the list.

• August 2, 2022 primary election: 21.66%
• May 3, 2022 special election: 10.06%
Even in a general election, District 2 has not been able to produce a turnout above 50%.
