Contract Termination
“I move to terminate Mr. Gibbs’ contract for cause,” Chairman Joe Moss said, “because the Board has determined that Mr. Gibbs in connection with the performance of his duties under the employment agreement has been dishonest, committed gross misconduct, and/or committed willful malfeasance.”
• Gibbs was invited to the meeting but wasn’t present
• During the discussion on the motion, the Board had an in-depth conversation on mediation and appeared open to that option should the need arise
• The Board voted 10–1 for termination, with Democrat Commissioner Doug Zylstra voting no
After the vote, there was discourse on the process of hiring the next administrator. Commissioner Roger Bergman commented that previously the County used a service to help with the search process. Moss agreed with Bergman that a thorough search should be conducted for the right candidate.

“As a wise man said: ‘Give peace a chance.’ I will add to that, peace through truth.” —Chairman Joe Moss
In a tough moment, the Board seemed to work together beautifully.
