Say the words “election day” and many only think of the November general election.

What if there is another, more important election day?

Primary Vs General Elections

Many voters are unaware of the importance of voting in every election and often overlook the August primary election.

In Ottawa County, the winning candidate in November is almost always determined in the August primary, making the August primary the most important election in Ottawa County. This year’s primary election will determine who is elected in Ottawa County for the next four years.

WAITING UNTIL NOVEMBER TO VOTE MEANS YOU DID NOT GET TO CHOOSE WHICH CANDIDATES BEST ALIGN WITH YOUR VALUES. YOU SIMPLY ALLOWED OTHERS TO VOTE FOR YOU IN AUGUST.

This is why primary voting is so important. There is a greater chance to find a candidate who aligns with your values.

Fantasy Ballot

Americans seem to spend more time looking at stats and players to pick their fantasy football teams than they do on candidates running for office.

Voters need to think of the August primary like setting up their fantasy football team. Vet the candidates and look at their values. The August primary election gives voters a chance to find the best candidate to represent their values, goals, or political party.

THE QUALITY OF THE CANDIDATE SELECTION ON THE NOVEMBER BALLOT IS DETERMINED BY VOTERS WHO SHOW UP FOR THE AUGUST PRIMARY.
Voting Matters

Participating in elections is one of the key freedoms of American life. Voting provides citizens with a voice in decision making by giving them an opportunity to express their opinions and choose a candidate who will best represent them.

With turnout usually lower in the August primary, one vote carries a greater weight than in the November general.

VOTING IS NOT MERELY A RIGHT BUT A RESPONSIBILITY AND A PRIVILEGE THAT EVERY AMERICAN CITIZEN SHOULD EMBRACE.
Be informed and let your voice be heard through your vote on August 6, 2024.
