According to influencewatch.org, the mission of Vote Common Good is “to convince five to fifteen percent of American Christians to vote for liberal candidates and causes…”
Vote Common Good Founding
Doug Pagitt, known for many years as a liberal evangelical activist, founded Vote Common Good—a nonprofit 501(c)(4)— in 2018, with the specific intent of opposing the policies of President Donald Trump.
Pagitt is also the founder of other extremely progressive organizations, such as the Greater Things Foundation and the non-denominational church Solomon’s Porch in Minneapolis, which is a sanctuary for illegal immigrants.
IF YOU STAND FOR SOCIAL JUSTICE, WELCOMING REFUGEES AND IMMIGRANTS, BLACK LIVES MATTER, ABOLISHING THE DEATH PENALTY, FIGHTING FOR A LIVING WAGE FOR ALL AMERICANS, WELCOMING AND SUPPORTING THE LGBTQ+ COMMUNITY AND ACTIVELY LOVING YOUR NEIGHBORS AS YOURSELF, THEN YOU’VE COME TO THE RIGHT PLACE. —VOTE COMMON GOOD
A quick scroll through the Vote Common Good Facebook page and their core values become apparent.
Following are two of their recent posts:
Local Chapter Of Vote Common Good
Nick Brock is the director of Vote Common: West Michigan. He is one of the Voices of Vote Common Good at the national level.
Brock says he is the “Lead Coffee Roaster at Schuil Coffee & Tea, Voice of Common Good at Vote Common Good, and Executive Director at Vote Common Good: West Michigan.”
During election season, Brock tours the country with national leader Doug Pagitt. According to a 2018 Huff Post article, the purpose of the Vote Common Good bus tour was to “help dislodge the Republican Party’s control of Congress.”
Brock traveled with Pagitt in 2022 on a bus tour called “Faith, Hope, and Love,” where the Vote Common Good team “confronted Christian nationalism.” The tour even included an event at Park Theater in Holland with then-commissioner candidates Roger Bergman, Greg DeJong, Matt Fenske, and Randy Meppelink.
The Problem With Common Good
The problem with voting for the “common good” is, whose common good is being voted for?
“The politics of the ‘common good’ requires citizens to selflessly sacrifice their ‘pursuit of happiness’ in order to obey the diktat of the ruling class. True morality is not, however, about obedience, submission, and subordination. That is the morality of serfs, not of free men and women.” —Tyranny and the politics of the Common Good, Americanmind.org
VOTING FOR THE “COMMON GOOD” IS VOTING AGAINST INDIVIDUAL RIGHTS.
As Americans we need to stand up for our constitutional rights and not be bullied by activists who twist scripture and want to eliminate conservative voices from the public square.
