Ottawa Impact has been a supporter of Lucy Ebel from the start. On July 3, 2023, Democratic Party treasurer, activist, and prior candidate, Larry Jackson, filed a recall petition against Ottawa County’s first Latina County Commissioner, Lucy Ebel. As the left began its attempt to recall Commissioner Ebel, Ottawa Impact issued a statement of continuing support for Ebel:

Allendale school board prioritizes MASB membership over standing up for parents

On September 29, 2021, the National School Board Association (NSBA) sent a letter to The White House asking for federal law enforcement to assist them in dealing with parents who were coming to school board meetings to protest mask mandates and critical race theory curriculum. NSBA said the parents’ actions could be the equivalent of domestic terrorists and hate crimes.

Upcoming May election for school operating millages

On May 2, 2023, voters in Grand Haven, Hudsonville, West Ottawa, and Zeeland will be asked to approve school operating millages in their respective districts. Many voters believe that good schools are what make an area a desirable place to live. Therefore, they commonly vote ‘yes’ on all ballot proposals related to schools without weighing the cost-benefit ratio. Unfortunately, this rubber-stamping approval by voters has led to school districts that have little incentive to scrutinize spending.
